Pupil Support

Mrs N Reynolds – Principal Teacher, Pupil Support
_DSC9076I have a caseload meeting the pastoral needs for pupils with the surnames starting with Mi to Z.
It is my responsibility to monitor their attendance, punctuality academic progress and pastoral needs through the school. If your child in my caseload I may be the first point of contact with school.
My whole school responsibility is for careers education, employability, enterprise and the senior phase. This is a wide remit and involves many aspects.
I ensure that the PSE courses have careers education included and this includes presentations from staff from Skills Development Scotland and other employment partners involved with the school.
For employability pupils are encouraged to develop the skills they need to look, apply and maintain employment. This involves CV workshops, college application workshops, university application help and support to name but a few. We cannot prepare our young people for employment in isolation. I therefore work closely with Skills Development Scotland and the local colleges and the University of West of Scotland. Many of these institutions provide activities for our pupils and I will liaise with them if our pupils are involved. I also organise campus visits to colleges and universities to allow pupils the experience of being a college and university student. These events are offered through the Focus West initiative. Activities are also offered in school to help pupils develop their skills and look into their future employment needs. These experiences are all very popular with the young people of Maxwelltown High School.
I will be looking to develop our work experience provision to allow pupils to experience working life and to allow them to develop the skills they have acquired in school in the workplace. Part of the work experience provision will include mock interview experience. The experience of work can be done through some of the enterprise challenges in the senior phase. Again I am responsible for organising activities and liaising with the partner agencies who can offer their expertise.

As Principal Teacher, Pupil Support, I have joint responsibility for mainstream pupils with Additional Support Needs in the school. I have a caseload of pupils with barriers to learning, which may include learning needs such as dyslexia, medical issues and social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
I work closely with my caseload and their families to help ensure they achieve their potential in school.  This involves jointly leading a team of Additional Support for Learning Teachers and Assistants.
I am committed to ensuring that all young people are able to do their best at school and go onto a positive destination after school.
As a member of the ASL I teach in the Learning Centre and support pupils in a range of subjects.

Miss Clare McQuade – Principal Teacher Pupil Support
In the role of Pupil Support I am responsible for meeting the pastoral needs for pupils with the surnames starting with H-Me. I work closely with individual pupils to ensure they have the pastoral care they require through monitoring their attendance, behaviour and academic performance. I am the first contact in school for any child in my caseload. My whole school responsibility is Personal and Social Education (PSE). Every pupil has one period a week of PSE which promotes positive health and well-being. This is a planned progressive programme which develops the pupils’ knowledge and understanding, skills, capabilities and attributes which they need for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing now and in the future. Some of the topics covered are bullying, fire safety, internet/phone safety, domestic abuse, drugs, alcohol and employability. This is delivered by teachers and outside partners/speakers.
As well as being part of the pupil support team I am also a member of the Physical education department. I enjoy teaching a range of activities and lead on many extra-curricular activities.
