S1 pupils at Maxwelltown High School had a fantastic experience just before the Easter holidays when the Hidden Histories team came into school to deliver workshops over two days. Pupils delved into the hidden history of Lochside, Lincluden and the surrounding area, and uncovered fascinating facts about Lincluden Abbey, Teletubby hill and the 12 apostles (standing stones). Pupils had the opportunity to uncover real artefacts from the land on which our new school is being built and were fascinated by what they found and what this tells us about our local history. At the end of the day, pupils participated in a Viking burial and were given the opportunity to think about ways in which people in the past have remembered those who have died. This then helped pupils to think about ways in which we can use objects to remember Maxwelltown High School and how this can help us as we make the transition to the new school.
Pupils and teachers learned a lot and had a great deal of fun at the same time. A huge thank you to Hidden Histories for such an inspiring couple of days.
