This year’s SQA exam period runs from Monday 30th April until Monday 4th June. S4 students can request to take the day prior to an exam, as well as the day of the exam itself as study leave. S5 and S6 study leave has been agreed across the four Dumfries secondary schools as being from Tuesday 8th May until Thursday 31st May 2018. Parents or carers must send a letter or phone into school to request study leave for specific exams. Students are permitted to be in school during study leave if they have made arrangements with their class teacher for extra revision. If this is the case, then students must sign in at the school office, and be wearing school uniform.
During the week beginning the 14th May, all S4 students will be engaged in a health and wellbeing week unless they have an exam. The week is delivered by numerous partner agencies that provide advice and strategies to support our young people as they prepare to move on in their lives. During the week beginning the 21st May the students will be involved in an activities week through Hidden Histories, and there will be various activities on offer for students to take part in.

Students will be issued with their exam timetable in the run up to the main exam period. In particular, students should check time of each exam, and make sure they are in school at least 15 minutes prior to the start of their exam wearing school uniform and have the correct equipment as required. In the unlikely event of a student being absent during an exam, then the school should be contacted immediately, so that we know the reasons for any absence.
Any student in S4, S5 or S6 whose official leaving date is the 31st May, and who will not be returning to Maxwelltown High School, must complete a leavers form and return all books and equipment, on or before that date.
